The Cyclades group consists of 56 islands of various sizes, scattered around an imaginary center in the middle of Aegean sea. Some of them are well known to the public due to the international jet set, while others remain little known to unknown, as they rarely appear on the tourist scene. Nevertheless, the Cyclades are a must to visit for any kind of tourist or traveler.

Cyclades Islands in the Aegean seaAccording to the common belief, the name Cyclades derives from the imaginary circle they form, having as a virtual center the sacred island of Delos.

Geologists attribute this formation to successive geological changes (earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and movements of the earth's crust) which resulted in the submerge of a substantial part of the land form which the Cyclades resulted from. Many believe this is how the (lost continent) Atlantis disappeared into the sea.

Having some common properties such as the cubic white houses, the countless little churches of local architecture and a storm-lashed landscape for background, they also have characteristics unique to each island which can be discovered from their individual pages.
